Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Montes knew she wanted to become a dentist since she was 10 years old. She developed a good rapport with her own dentist growing up, and she liked the way he was able to interact with his patients, educating and putting them at ease in addition to treating them. It inspired her to follow the path she has been on for the past 30+ years!
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Montes earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the New York University College of Dentistry in 1990. She then completed a general practice residency at Metropolitan Hospital followed by a fellowship in dentistry for the developmentally disabled at the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Montes went on to work as an associate attending at Metropolitan Hospital, Coler Memorial Hospital, and Lutheran Memorial Hospital, where she served in the pediatric dental department teaching residents to treat developmentally disabled patients in a regular dental setting as well as in the operating room under general anesthesia.
An active member of the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of Laser Dentistry, Puerto Rico Dental Association, and the Galler Group for Invisalign, Dr. Montes strives to stay on top of the latest breakthroughs in dentistry so she can always offer her patients the highest standard of care.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Montes is married to our own Dr. Velazquez, and they have two adult children, Paola and Raphael. When she isn’t at the dental office or spending quality time with them, she likes to work out every day, whether that involves HIIT, Pilates, spin class, or lifting weights.
