For over 30 years, Dr. Velazquez has been using science and art to help people through dentistry, and he says it has been tremendously fulfilling each step of the way. Since co-founding Woodside Dental Care in 1994, he has been educating patients and striving to always deliver the best quality dental care. His goal is to offer a comprehensive approach to oral health to create a beautiful balance between function and aesthetics.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Velazquez was already attending the University of Puerto Rico by the time dentistry got on his radar. He was planning to go to medical school, but one of his friends at the NYU College of Dentistry told him about the hands-on, artistic aspect of the field, and it caught his interest. All these decades later, he couldn’t be happier where his career has taken him!
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Velazquez received his doctorate from the New York University College of Dentistry, and he then completed a general practice residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn. He has taken countless hours of continuing education throughout his career, largely focused on implant and cosmetic dentistry.
To date, Dr. Velazquez has completed courses focused on full mouth reconstruction, extractions, and smile design, and he is also an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of Laser Dentistry, Puerto Rico Dental Association, and the Galler Group.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Velazquez and our own Dr. Montes have been married for over 30 years, and they have two children, Paola and Raphael (with their oldest currently doing her dental residency). Their family is completed by their Havanese dog, Lucas. He loves to host gatherings with friends and family, especially if it involves good food and wine, and he likes to stay active through tennis, golf, and biking.
